The PACT act was released on August 2, 2022, to provide justice to the veterans of camp Lejune contamination. The full form of this act is promised to address comprehensive toxics. President Biden signed it. Many people are filing lawsuits to see compensation and reimbursement for the damages resulting from the incident. The lawsuit will help make up for all the damages resulting from exposure to toxic material in the water and potential healthcare costs for those victims that have developed a medical condition due to the contamination. Earlier, the victims who faced the consequential damage from camp Lejune contamination were not allowed to seek the available legal remedies per the federal tort claims act. However, now the residents of camp Lejeune are allowed to gain compensation from the government benefits for the damages.
Medical issues added in the PACT act
Numerous medical conditions are included in the Camp Lejeune lawsuits. To file a lawsuit for camp Lejune, it must pass the PACT requirements. The carcinogen present in the toxic material contaminating the water is found to be the cause of various kinds of cancer, issues, and other health conditions.
The veterans of the marine corps are allowed to seek compensation for medical care and toxic water if they have provided active service at camp Lejune for a period of 30 days between August 1953 to December 1987 or they have stayed at camp Lejune for 30 days during the service of their family member. The VA is responsible for paying for all the losses incurred for healthcare treatment. If the conditions qualify as per the demands of that, all of the payment will be made, and the way or the other medical issues caused by the water contamination will be paid through copayment.
The qualification of disability benefits requires the veterans to have illnesses Like bladder cancer, kidney cancer, aplastic anemia, liver cancer, multiple myeloma, Parkinson’s disease, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
