Microtech’s History of Quality Knives

Microtech’s History of Quality Knives

Microtech Knives was founded in 1994 to make the best knives possible. Over the years, they have infused passion and skill into creating works of art at the apex of functionality and form. They continue to push boundaries and improve on what they already know results.

Microtech has grown into a leading cutlery brand, always evolving, and moving forward using the latest technology, ancient blade principles, and maximum field testing to ensure they deliver the best product possible.

  1. Early Years

In the early days, Microtech knives were made in small batches and sold out quickly. Founder Anthony Marfione’s obsession with making Quality knives drove him to perfection. The Dirac was one of the first overbuilt side-opening automatics that would set the industry standard in strength, style, and performance. Innovation has been key from day one as Marfione worked tirelessly to perfect his craft. His attention to detail led him to offer custom knives direct to customers, which quickly gained popularity in knife-collecting circles. What started as a one-man operation in a garage has now expanded into a 45,000 sq ft facility with some of the most advanced machinery in the industry.

  1. Modern Age

Today, Microtech manufactures over 100 different models of knives spanning 12 product lines. They have collaborated with some of the custom world’s best knifemakers, including Ernest Emerson, Mike “Whisker Biscuit” Galysh, Walter Brend, Bob Terzuola, SebastijanBerenji, Greg Lightfoot, TJ Schmidt, Phil Bohlen, and Nick Swan. While other companies have shifted much of their manufacturing offshore Microtech keeps production local in Asheville, NC, employing nearly 200 people. This allows for better quality control, and American-made goods are essential. Marfione Custom Knives continues to operate out of this facility, handcrafting high end customs knives that are among the most sought-after by collectors worldwide.

Through continuous innovation and commitment to quality, Microtech has become a leader in the knife industry.
